A native of Louisville, Ky., Sallie E. Downing moved to Indianapolis, Ind. as a child. She married John H. Vajen, and after his death she married William H. Coleman in 1889. Hodges was an Indianapolis, Ind. clubwoman, and held offices in the Propylaeum Club and the Indiana affiliate of the Colonial Dames. She was married to Dr. Fletcher H. Hodges. Sallie E.
